Dairy Herd Inventory Report

Dairy Herd Inventory Report

Dairy Herd Inventory Report

The Dairy Herd Inventory Report forecasts inventories over the next 6-7 months. Current inventories and animal statuses calculate inventories for the start of each month. It is a built-in report. Find the report under the Management Folder under User Reports.

Current Month

The current month will be the first row of the report. Events include due fresh or dry before the start of the next month. The cull numbers are the percentages above the table and divided by months. The current month culls are proportional to the number of days remaining in the month.

Inventories

The heifers column is the current inventory, heifer calves born, and heifers freshened. Age of heifers is not a consideration of this report.

The dry inventory is the current dry inventory, animals due, and predicted dry offs. The NexDry item sets the number of predicted dryoffs. The NexDry item is set by the herd settings or a dry off chore if scheduled. Significant gaps between dry period settings in herd settings and Dry off protocols may cause gaps in dry cow inventories.

Milking numbers begin with the current inventory. Each parity will change by freshens and culls.

Events

The number to freshen is the number due to freshen that month. The DCC at Due will vary due to factors such as fetal sex, parity, breed, and season.

The number of heifer calves is set by dairy heifer calf probability. This accounts for sexed, conventional, and beef semen usage. Sexing fetuses will impact this number also.

The heifer calves column utilizes the report items DHFR% (Dairy Heifer Probability) and BFCF% (Beef Calf Probability) to predict the number of dairy heifer calves to be born each month. 'Beef Calf Probability' includes more than just animals pregnant to beef semen. It considers bull calves resulting in animals pregnant to both dairy and beef semen and heifer calves resulting in animals pregnant to beef semen.

Default cull numbers are from the culling patterns over the previous 6 months by parity. Reason does not affect default cull numbers, so the reason "Sold to Dairy" contributes to these numbers. Adjusting these numbers will refresh the total culled on refresh. All events ignore culling patterns. Culls will only affect the number of milking cows and heifers.

The Dairy Herd Inventory Report should be used with some considerations. Events and heifer calves forecasts do not include abortions, bred animals, or culled pregnant animal.
