Merging Duplicate Animals

Merging Duplicate Animals

If animals are scanned at destination farm, before a 'move off farm' event is entered; a new animal will be created upon scanning the EID. To merge the two animals into 1 record in BoviSync follow the video below. At the end is a section about merging animals at the same location that share a number of fields. See this section for more information on when an animal record will be merged.

Use this Comparison Report to help troubleshoot animals not merging

Written Instructions:

The following must be the same in both animals for a merge to occur.  One animal can have the information missing for it to not be considered a conflict and permit the merge:
  • Eartag
  • EID
  • Is Registered (yes/no value)
  • Registered ID
  • Registration Country
  • Registration Status
  • Birth Date
  • Sire ID
  • Dam (genetic)
  • Dam ID born to (Entered by fresh event entry to different animals)

Some additional criteria that prevents merging:
  • If the animals are both offsite and have different owners
  • Unique EIDs or Eartag
  • The animal may not have any daughters
  • If both animals have test day or parlor data
  • If they are 180 or more days apart in age
  • If they have the same owner, except in the case of saving a newly created animal from an offline device

After you have ensured that those items match both animals' records:
  1. Move the animal back to it's home farm
  2. Login to the animal's home farm
  3. Delete the 'move off farm' event you created in step 1
  4. Login to the farm the animal was at, the two records will be merged into one.
