Recording and reporting with locomotion events.
Lameness has a large impact on the productivity and welfare of animals. Locomotion scoring was introduced to determine the prevalence of lameness on a dairy. If a dairy is interested in determining the impact of lameness on their dairy they should consider tracking locomotion on each animal. Locomotion events can be recorded in web entry (Enter Locomotion Event (bovisync.farm)) or in the mobile app using chores or an events set. It uses a integer of 1 to5 for any animal(s) on the farm. All links in this article will apply to BoviSync farm with locomotion events recorded.
If there isn't any desire or attempt to record locomotion values to a particular animals select the random buttom. This will make clear that the cow wasn't actually scored a particular number but part of a group that was scored.
One advantage of using an event is it is possible to track lameness overtime against other performance values.
Summary by Locomotion Score summarizes milk production, days open, and days in milk at first breeding. Once a farm begins recording locomotion scores they can be used to compare against each other in reports.
Locomotion scores can also be used to enroll individual cows into different intervals for hoof trimming or for an immediate trim. This is an example protocol that creates a chore to complete on the BoviSync mobile app.
