BoviSync is a leading herd management platform designed to streamline dairy farm operations. It not only supports daily management and compliance but also offers powerful reporting capabilities to drive informed decisions on your farm.
Unlike many other herd management systems, BoviSync goes beyond static standard reports by offering highly customizable reporting features, enabling dairy farms to tailor insights into their specific goals. BoviSync Reporting features:
- Create reports filtered by herd groups, event types, reproductive status, and management metrics.
- Reports can be saved at the user, farm, or team level.
- Export any report to csv for further custom analysis, pivot tables, or integration into other tools like Excel.
- Export to PDF for printing and sharing reports.
- Schedule any BoviSync reports to run and download to local computer
Additionally, we offer different tools for reporting from BoviSync. Each of these tools has different strengths, depending on what you need to do. This guide will help you choose the right tool for your situation—without needing to be a technical expert.

Option 1: Bovi-Insights (Web Reports)
Best for: Quick, flexible reports right in the BoviSync interface
- Filter by herd, status, date, and more
- Add, remove, or reorder columns
- Multisite reporting
- Deep depth of querying with formulas
- Download to CSV or PDF instantly
Example: "Show me all cows due for pregnancy checks next week."
Limitations:
- Limited to 1,000,000 cells
- 5-minute timeouts in web that can impact very large or complex reports
- Browser and Computer limitations
Option 2: Direct Query (Power BI, R, SAS)
Best for: Dashboards, summaries, trends, and combining BoviSync with other data
- Pre-built dashboards or custom ones you design
- Connects securely to your BoviSync data
- Schedule recurring exports and refreshes
- Use filters and visualizations for easier decision-making
Example: "Create a dashboard that I can use slicers."
Limitations:
- Requires a Power BI Pro license and some technical skill to build dashboards
- Not ideal for row-by-row details or one-off lists
BoviSync recommends using the direct query capabilities when using PowerBI:
Option 3: BoviSync API (Developers Use)
Best for: Integrating BoviSync data into your own software or systems
- Flexible and powerful for developers
- Access real-time or historical data
- Used for syncing with ERPs, CRM systems, mobile apps, and more
Example: "In my application we need to show the animals breeding from a few minutes ago"
Limitations:
- Requires a programmer or integration partner
- You must manage the connection and updates
- Not appropriate for large data quantities or filling datalakes with historic data
Option 4: Automatically Exported Custom Reports (Built in Webapp)
Best for: Specific business needs that aren’t covered by built-in reports
- We build it based on your specifications
- You choose the data, format, and delivery method
- You choose the recurrence interval
- Reports generated asynchronously
- Use Farm and Date dynamically in name to create running history of files (e.g Monthly_Fresh_{FARM}_{DATE})
Example: "Send me a CSV every Monday with all cows that were sold the previous week, grouped by reason and location."
Limitations:
- May take a few days depending on complexity
- One-time setup or hourly charge may apply
- Auto-reports are supported up to 20-minute generation time. Note that limits will be imposed on individuals and companies on total server usage.
Some users have found these useful to load data to other systems when the direct connection didn't work in their use-case. Why So Many Tools?
Different tools exist because different tasks have different requirements:
- Web reports are fast and user-friendly, but not designed millions of rows.
- PowerBI offers deep insights, but needs some setup and licenses.
- APIs are for technical teams building their own systems.
- Custom reports are ideal when you know what you need but don’t want to build it yourself.

Why do some report items take longer than others?
BoviSync standardizes raw data and then enables deep and complex querying of the raw data. Additionally, it allows time travel to see the current state on historical dates. These key functions increase compute time and cost.
